Ekiti Laywers Storm NSCDC Headquarters, Seek Justice For Assaulted Member

Ekiti Lawyers on Tuesday besieged the headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ado Ekiti, seeking justice for the former Ikere Branch President of Young Lawyer Forum in Ekiti State, Barrister Ayodeji Aina who was allegedly harassed and assaulted by a civil defense corps.

The protest which was led by a Senior lecturer and Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association, Ikere Ekiti Branch, Dr. Micheal Afolayan (Esq) had representatives of lawyers from NBA Ado-Ekiti Branch, Ikole Branch and Ikere-Ekiti Branch as well as members of Young Lawyers Forum in the State.

Barr. Aina was said to have visited one of the branches of the NSCDC in Ado Ekiti last week to meet with his client but was assaulted by one of the officers on duty, Mr. David Omotuase.

Addressing the gathering, the Ekiti State Commandant Mr. John Fayemi, appealed to the lawyer and disclosed that the command has commenced investigation into the matter.

Mr Fayemi said in demonstration of the command’s commitment to justice and discipline among its officers, has asked the alleged officer, Mr Omotuase to step down from his duty post pending the conclusion of the investigation.

In his remarks, the NBA Ikere Branch Chairman, Dr. Afolayan who spoke on behalf of other branch chairmen in the State, described both lawyers and security officers as officers of the law who needed to work together harmoniously to strengthen the justice system of the state.

He described the victim, Barr. Aina as gentleman who was his student during undergraduate before becoming his staff after completion of Law school.

He said the victim was the least expected to have been a victim of such incidence, as he was such a dutiful, professional and decorum officer of the law.

Ekiti State NSCDC Public Relations Officers Mr. Tolukolade Afolabi assured and appealed to warring Lawyers that investigation has started into the matter and Justice would be done accordingly.
He called on the public to always make contact with the command if their rights are violated by men of the command.
