Liverpool belied their recent struggles to thrash Manchester United 7-0 as Mohamed Salah became their record Premier League goalscorer.
Cody Gakpo placed a shot in the bottom corner, Darwin Nunez headed in and Gakpo clipped a shot over David de Gea from Mohamed Salah’s pass.
Salah scored a fine volley and Nunez headed in Jordan Henderson’s cross.
Egyptian Salah scored again, his 129th league goal for the club, and Roberto Firmino added a seventh.
Liverpool move up to fifth place on 42 points, just three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur on the log.
For United, they remain in third spot on 49 points but have a game in hand.
After a tight early exchange Liverpool broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute after Gakpo ran on to a brilliant splitting pass from Andy Robertson, beat how marker before curling into the far corner.
Just two minutes into the second half, Nunez made it 2-0 as he rose to head home a cross from close range.
Gakpo made it 3-0 in the 50th minute as he dinked the ball past David De Gea after Salah ran rings round Martinez.
Salah got on the score sheet in the 66th minute with a right foot shot which put Liverpool 4-0 ahead.
Liverpool were not done as they poured forward for more goals and were rewarded on 75 minutes after Nunez jumped highest to head home Jordan Henderson’s cross.
Salah got his second and Liverpool’s sixth in the 83rd minute with a close range finish before Firmino added the seventh on 88 minutes.
